Programme Note:
‘Loch Lomond’ is a traditional Scottish folksong with an very recognizable melody. In Ticheli’s setting of the popular tune, he aims to preserve the simplicity of folksong’s charm while instilling it with a musical representation of the ‘resilience of the human spirit’. This setting is one of my absolute favourite pieces for concert band, and I look forward to sharing it with you all. Keep your ears tuned for the appearance of another favorite folk tune towards the end of the performance! |
Programme Note:
Hank Levy's 'Decoupage' famously performed by the Stan Kenton big band is a tour de force in harmonic jazz writing. Featuring each section in turn and solos from Ben Jackson on alto and Alex MacArthur on Trumpet. This odd meter piece keeps the listener on their toes playing fast and loose with the harmonic and melodic rules of jazz past. So sit by and enjoy this Levy/Kenton classic. |
