Born in Hong Kong, Canadian Liam Callan is a product of diverse and international influences having grown up in Turkey, the United Arab Emirates, Malaysia and Italy.  Raised by international educators, Liam was shaped by a multitude of cultures, each having a significant and lasting effect on his music as well as character. His musical personality was first etched out from the lessons he received from a Filipino wandering minstrel in Abu Dhabi. From there he began to write songs, and compose instrumental music, born from the  influences of the cultures that he grew up in.

As a product of the American International School system and the International Baccalaureate Diploma, Liam is a lifelong learner. As an educator, Liam strives to contribute to those systems that helped to shape him into who he is today by teaching in the international school system, and continuing to work with the Berklee College of Music on various projects globally.

As a composer, Liam currently writes primarily for instrumental chamber groups and large jazz ensemble. He has been a commissioned composer, workshop leader and visiting artist for schools including the International School of Kuala Lumpur (Malaysia), International School of Düsseldorf, American school of the Hague and New Rochelle High School (New York).

Liam honed his skills as a large ensemble jazz composer, instrumentalist, and music educator at the Berklee College of Music as a Jazz Composition/Music Education double major. After graduating in 2019 he returned to Hong Kong where he is currently Head of Music at the American School Hong Kong, and currently serves on the Board of Trustees  for the Association for Music in International Schools (AMIS).
